Genuine 5S Activities

At our company, we are engaged in “genuine 5S activities” as part of our organizational culture reform activities. The purpose of this activity is to break away from the traditional beautification-based 5S activities and strengthen human resource development and workplace development.The aim of this activity is to build a 5S team in each workplace and follow the “three principles of authentic 5S activities.” We are currently carrying out various positive activities.

What is “genuine 5S activity”?

“Genuine 5S activities” is a method advocated by Kazuo Nishizawa of Nishizawa Professional Engineer Office. At our company, we operate in accordance with the various methods proposed by Professor Nishizawa.

In “genuine 5S activities,” employees' “problems” are positioned as organizational issues, and the organization is working to resolve the issues. Progress is being made in creating an atmosphere where employees can freely share their concerns, which is also helping to ensure psychological safety.

Towards regularization of “genuine 5S activities”

  • 1.Top patrol
    • The president himself, who is the 5S promotion committee chair, visits all workplaces across the company once every three months to check and evaluate the activity status of each 5S team. We are also working to revitalize our efforts by supporting improvements for problems that are difficult for the 5S team to handle alone, and by sharing improvement efforts with other teams.
  • 2.5S committee
    • The 5S Committee is held once a month at each location. This initiative is intended to be a continuous activity, with each 5S team leader reporting on the progress of the activity plan and the promotion committee reporting on the status of support.
  • 3.Joint 5S Committee
    • We hold a joint 5S committee once every six months. In this initiative, the leaders of each 5S team will report their activity results on a semi-annual basis and select the best and most outstanding teams. We also use this as an opportunity to share improvement examples with other teams.
  • 4.5S competition
    • We hold a 5S competition once every half year. We are promoting further regularization of our activities by awarding certificates and supplementary prizes to the teams selected as the best and outstanding teams by the Joint 5S Committee.
